Keep an eye on sunglasses: Fake Sunglasses can harm your eyes

sunglassesNo matter the season: the care of the eyes should be kept at any time of year – rain or shine. The greatest enemy of vision is ultraviolet radiation (UVA and UVB). To avoid the risks, only by wearing sunglasses. But not worth those purchased in the flea market: the dark lenses need to have quality to prevent radiation into eyes. Otherwise, damage can be even greater than those suffered by those who do not wear glasses ever.

“The lenses are tinted with the pupil dilates, since presumably improve vision. This increases the penetration of sunlight in her eyes, the lens does not rely on protection. This radiation increases the risk of disease, “says ophthalmologist Leoncio Queiroz Neto, Penido Burnier Institute in Sao Paulo.

Some problems caused by the sun can be felt immediately, such as burns of the eyelids, which increases the risk of skin cancer in the region. In addition, there may be fotoceratite – inflammation of the cornea that occurs after six hours of eye exposure to the sun whose symptoms are redness, dryness and feeling of sand in sight.

“The person who is exposed to the sun without protection can have many long term problems,” says Leoncio. The main ones are senile cataracts and macular degeneration (vision loss in the center of the field of view). “The lack of protection by 60% increases the chance that the problem arises early. Hats also help protect the eye, “teaches.

According to the specialist, you must be very careful when choosing sunglasses: high price is not always guarantee quality. Therefore, we need to keep an eye on the product chosen. “We need to take the glasses to the optician, who has equipment that measures the effectiveness of the lenses,” he says.

What sunglasses are needed?
They must have lenses with 100% UV protection. They are more expensive than those sold on street market, because the lenses pass control quality and receive colorless resins and / or tint that in addition to UV radiation, absorb some blue light that causes eye disease.

How can I ensure that I am using quality pair of sunglasses?
The safest way to ensure the quality of the lens is to check whether they have the ISO 15111 certification.

Bad eyewear is worse than not wearing anything?
Yes Lenses without protection are worse than not using sunglasses. The lens causes dark pupil dilation and allows penetration of a larger amount of radiation in the eye, which leads to damage.

What goggles should I use on a daily basis?
And when it’s cloudy? For day to day, the best colors are amber, brown and gray, which allow good vision and depth of contrast, and reduce glare. To drive on cloudy days, gray lenses are ideal because they allow better viewing contrast. At dusk, yellow lenses reduce glare caused by headlights.

The use of sunscreen around the eyes can cause problems?
The safest way to protect both the skin and vision is to use sunscreens that reflect radiation instead of chemical filters which absorb it. The tip is to check if the formula contains only zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, which characterize the physical blocker. How have neutral pH, avoid eye irritation.

Effects of Smoking on oral health

Smoking is not only linked to lung cancer and cardiovascular disease, but it also reaches the health of the mouth. Smoking increases the risk of tooth loss, but more importantly, what is the main cause of cancers of the mouth and throat. Indeed, smoking generates 75% of all cancers of the mouth.

Smoking and overall health

Here are some facts about how smoking affects health:

  • Smokers have an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (including stroke, chest pain and palpitations), cancer and emphysema, in fact, emphysema is found almost exclusively in smokers, and 35% of cancers are related to smoking.
  • 95% of patients who die from lung cancer are smokers, lung cancer kills more women than breast cancer and cervical cancer among smokers increased from 8 to 17 times because of the elevation the concentration of nicotine in cervical secretions.
  • smoking in moderation does not eliminate the risks of smoking, the risk depends on how long someone has smoked and how it has inspired, and genetic factors.
  • Smoking reduces the effectiveness of drugs, including painkillers, antidepressants, tranquilizers, sedatives, insulin and medication against ulcers.
  • Smoking destroys certain vitamins and creates the need for other specific nutrients.
  • For each puff every person breathes 4,700 different chemicals.
  • Smokers are four times more likely to have gray hair and their hair loss is increased.
  • over 90% of regular smokers started using tobacco at age 18 or younger.
  • People who smoke are more likely to have sinusitis.

Smoking and Oral Health

Although smoking and chewing tobacco does not increase the risk of having caries , it may seriously damage the gums and
other parts of the mouth :

  • The risk of tooth loss in smokers is twice that among non-smokers
  • Smoking is the leading cause of cancers of the mouth and throat
  • Smoking increases the risk of periodontal disease (gum disease), in fact, according to the Journal of Periodontology,
  • Smokers are about four times more likely than those who never smoked to have advanced periodontal disease
  • Smoking can cause inflammation of the salivary glands
  • Smoking delays healing after tooth extraction and may lead to a temporary condition called painful and alveolitis
  • Smokers have less success with periodontal treatment and dental implants .

Apart from the hazards mentioned above, there are other factors that smokers should consider:

  • Smoking is an important source of halitosis (bad breath)
  • Loss of taste and smell can be caused by smoking and chewing tobacco
  • Smoking causes stains on the teeth which annoys the beauty of a smile
  • Smoking can cause hairy tongue which refers to growths on the tongue with a hairy appearance, yellow, green, brown or black
  • Smoking may accelerate the production of plaque and tartar .

Recommendations for smokers

Ask someone to stop smoking is something easier said than done. Addiction to nicotine can be very intense and difficult to
lose, that’s why tobacco companies are so successful with their products. But quitting smoking is the most effective way to
eliminate all the dangers that smoking can cause, not only on oral health, but also to increase the chances of living a long
and healthy life with people we love .

Here are some tips for smokers regarding their oral health:

  • although it is easier said than done, stop smoking or quit chewing tobacco!
  • make examinations regular dentist to check the condition of the gums and make sure that no oral cancer from developing
  • maintain good oral hygiene by brushing teeth regularly, passing the floss, using a mouthwash and a tongue cleaner, and with cleaning professionals to regular dentist’s office

we must learn to self-examine your mouth to check for the presence of oral cancer:

  • check for presence of abnormalities around the face, neck or mouth that do not heal in two weeks;
  • check for frequent bleeding in the mouth;
  • check for white lesions, red or dark patches on the cheeks, on or under the tongue, palate, and if these lesions do not
  • disappear after two weeks, have them checked by a dentist;
  • check for swelling, lumps or bumps on the lips, gums or other areas in the mouth;
  • check for numbness, pain or numbness in any area of ??the mouth.

It is suggested that the perception of freshness and cleanliness that a person feels in his mouth after brushing and flossing may temporarily curb the urge to smoke. Ironically, these simple tips also help prevent periodontal disease.

Chlamydia Infection

CHLAMYDIA INFECTION, SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTION COMMON IN YOUNG

The Chlamydia is sexually transmitted infection (STI) most common . It disproportionately affects adolescents and young adults between 15 and 24. The tragedy with this sexually transmitted infection is long and it is often asymptomatic. But left untreated, chlamydia can cause serious complications such as infertility, ectopic pregnancy or endometriosis.

What is chlamydia?

The Chlamydia is a bacterial infection (Chlamydia trachomatis) that is transmitted during sexual intercourse . It affects two thirds of sexually active young people aged 14 to 25 years.

What are the symptoms and complications of chlamydia?

In early infection, the symptoms of chlamydia are very light or almost non-existent (this is the case for 50% of infected men and 70% of women).

But from the start, while infection is still silent, is set up an inflammatory process in the pelvic area of women, particularly around the tubes. Without treatment, when the infection progresses, this inflammation can lead to serious complications, the main medium and long term are chronic pain pelvic, of miscarriages or infertility.

In men, the chlamydia can cause inflammation of the prostate or testicles can impair fertility.

When finally the symptoms of chlamydia occur, they are mainly:

In women:

  • Vaginal itching.
  • White discharge (leukorrhea).
  • Burning during urination.
  • Pain in lower back.
  • Pain during intercourse.
  • Bleeding between periods or after sex.
  • On conjunctivitis.
  • Inflammation of the rectum.

In Men:

  • Burning during urination.
  • Tingling and penile discharge.
  • Sometimes painful testicles.
  • On conjunctivitis.
  • Inflammation of the rectum.

Who is at risk for chlamydia? What screening?

To counter this sexually transmitted infection and avoid the risk of complications, people should get tested.
Notice to teens and young adults are sexually active: if you’re sexually very active with multiple partners (this is the main factor of risk of chlamydia ), especially in cases of unprotected sex, see your doctor to make a testing, even in the absence of any symptoms. The most common test is based on a urine test. This is very constraining, especially considering the potential complications.
If the screening test for chlamydia is positive, all sexual partners should be advised that they also do a test.

What is the treatment for chlamydia?

The treatment of chlamydia is antibiotics (single dose or a week) and requires a sexual abstinence for a week. The two most commonly-used ones are azithromycin (eg Zithromax, Clamelle) and doxycycline (eg Vibramycin).

Six months after the end of treatment, a new screening test is needed to determine whether the infection has disappeared. This verification test should not be neglected, because an estimated 25% of men and 16% of women are again or still positive!

How can I make sure I don’t get chlamydia?

  • Use condoms with new sexual partners.
  • Before you stop using condoms, make sure you and your partner get checked out for STIs by your local Doctor.

KIDNEY CANCER

KIDNEY CANCER : HOW TO TRACK IT? HOW TO PREVENT IT?

The kidney cancer is a rare cancer, it represents 2-3% of cancers. It affects more men than women after age 50.The tumor is most often diagnosed incidentally because it is not accompanied by obvious clinical symptoms. The most common sign for suspecting a kidney cancer is blood in the urine. Update on diagnosis, treatment and prevention of kidney cancer.

The diagnosis of kidney cancer is often delayed

The kidney cancer can be asymptomatic for a long time. That is to say that evolves silently without showing obvious signs. The diagnosis is often delayed and made ??incidentally during an abdominal ultrasound, an x-ray scanner, motivated for another reason.

The kidney cancer is rarely diagnosed before age 50.

Otherwise, the warning sign most common is the presence of blood in the urine . Less often, it can be a pain in the lumbar region. Isolated fever or associated with weight loss may also be a sign of a kidney cancer .

Against kidney cancer: surgical treatment and anti-angiogenic

The treatment of cancer of the kidney is primarily surgical, with an enlarged kidney removed and may be supplemented by a neck dissection. The prognosis is favorable when the renal tumor is localized, small and without metastasis.

You should know that kidney cancer is not very sensitive to chemotherapy and radiotherapy, but on the other hand, immunotherapy may be indicated.

In case of repetition (often with the risk of kidney cancer ), one can obtain a long-term stabilization of the tumor through newer drugs called anti-angiogenesis. They have the ability to inhibit the growth of arterial vessels that feed the tumor. And “suffocated”, the tumor can not grow. The handling of these drugs requires a good know-how and training of medical teams.

Can we prevent kidney cancer?

The answer is clearly yes.

The prevention of cancer of the kidney through smoking cessation. Tobacco is indeed responsible for urinary tract cancers, because they are the ones that ensure the elimination of tobacco metabolites (also note that bladder cancer is about two and attributable to tobacco).

This is precisely why some doctors offer their patients who smoke or former smokers each year to seek the possible presence of blood in the urine, and urine by a smear, to detect the presence of cancer cells.

Obesity and hypertension are two other factors of risk of cancer of the kidney , in which it is possible to act.

Indeed, the kidneys , whose major role is blood filtration and urine production (elimination of water, salt and other substances are no longer needed), are also involved in regulating blood pressure, through the secretion of the hormone, renin.

It is noteworthy that the kidney cancer has long asymptomatic and usually discovered incidentally. And if not, it is the presence of blood in the urine indicates that this cancer.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS

Rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammatory disease of the joints most frequently.

Swollen joints, pain, deformities and discomfort in achieving the actions of everyday life, are among the signs and
symptoms associated with this inflammatory disease that is the rheumatoid arthritis .

  • Rheumatoid arthritis, joint disease, what is this?
  • What are the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis?
  • What are the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis?

Rheumatoid arthritis, joint disease, what is this?

The rheumatoid arthritis is a disease characterized by joint inflammation , related to autoimmune response (immune system
cells attack the cells of abnormal joints). Over time, this inflammation deforms the joints , which can cause disability.

The joints most affected are typically those of the hands, wrists, knees and feet, but sometimes, those elbows, shoulders,
neck, jaw, hips, or ankles.

The rheumatoid arthritis develops in spurts, that is to say that there are periods during which joint symptoms occur,
interspersed with periods of remission (no symptoms).

Be aware that the RA  has the characteristic touch of young people (from 40 years) and more often women than men.

What are the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis?

When the disease begins, the symptoms are related to inflammation in the joints that prevails .

Indeed, the inflammatory response affects the synovial membrane (membrane surrounding the joints), resulting in edema. The
joint is then inflated, hot and red. It is also painful, especially at rest and at night, causing nighttime awakenings, and
stiffness in the morning upon awakening.

Conventionally, the achievement is symmetrical, that is to say that the two joints of each side of the body are achieved:
the right and left bends are affected at the same time for example.

As the disease progresses, other structures of the joint are attacked (cartilage, capsules, tendons, ligaments, muscles and
bones), causing joint deformity progressively disabling.

The joint becomes difficult to mobilize and achieve progressively extended to other joints . Sometimes appear small balls
under the skin, especially in the ankles. During outbreaks of rheumatoid arthritis , fever, fatigue, a weight loss , loss of
appetite, sometimes occur.

It happens that in some cases the inflammation extends to other organs, resulting in other types of signs: dry eyes , mouth,
reaching the heart, lungs, kidneys, anemia , etc..

Without treatment, the deformations (toes “hammer” fingers “swan neck” …) gradually hamper the achievement of daily
activities such as holding a pencil or open a bottle.

Attention, the course is unpredictable and varies greatly from one person to another, more or less rapid and debilitating.
For example, in one out of ten cases, the onset of rheumatoid arthritis is very abrupt and is characterized by fever and
fatigue. Finally, in some cases, the disease becomes so debilitating that she nailed in a wheelchair.

What are the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis?

The objective is to detect as early as possible rheumatoid arthritis , before the joints are damaged too, because the
treatments do not restore damaged tissue, but only slow the disease progression and thus the deterioration of joints .

But diagnosis is not always easy to wear because of the unpredictable course of rheumatoid arthritis and variability of
initial signs.

The treatment of rheumatoid arthritis are designed to reduce pain, prevent the destruction of joints , restore joint
function, increase the duration and frequency of periods of remission.

Several types of drugs are used in cases of rheumatoid arthritis :

the anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen, coxibs (selective NSAIDs) and corticosteroids to relieve pain,

antirheumatic drugs like methotrexate, which inhibit the immune attack on joints ,

biotherapy (TNF), the newer drugs which limit inflammation, and are reserved for severe cases because of their high cost and
their potential side effects.
The supported additional rheumatoid arthritis based on:

rehabilitation,

a physical activity suited,

of eating ,

psychological support.

It is noted that the issue is early diagnosis in order to benefit from treatment can prevent the degradation of joints .
So do not hesitate to consult a rheumatologist in case of symmetrical joints swollen and painful , even more so when a
family member already suffering from rheumatoid arthritis because there is a genetic component.

Please note that smoking is a factor known to promote the onset of rheumatoid arthritis and influence its severity

Advertising Seriously Damages the Batteries of Smartphones

A  study by the Indiana University and Microsoft ( pdf ), using applications financed by advertising also results in a significantly increased consumption of electricity, which accelerates the speed at which the battery the device is empty.

The researchers studied the power consumption of five different applications running on Android, the operating system for mobile Google. By measuring the energy consumption of different parts of a program, they concluded that advertising can represent half the consumption of an application, a proportion that increases with the amount of information collected about the user.

To play Angry birds , for example, only 20% of the energy used for the game itself – graphical rendering, game engine .. 45% of the energy is actually used by the advertising unit of the game: it geo-tags the user, and also collects Atures information, such as the type of device used. This information is then sent to ad servers, which return the phone targeted ads. Data transfers represent 28% of the energy conosmmation.

The observed proportions for Angry birds vary, but in the five applications observed, approximately one quarter of the electricity consumed by the application is used for user tracking. For the chess free FreeChess , only 20% of the energy used by artificial intelligence – typically the most resource-intensive program failures. 50% of the electricity used by the software, however, is devoted to advertising.
